Porcelain Crowns in Elk Grove and Davis
Durable and Natural-Looking Crowns
A crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is placed over a natural tooth to strengthen or repair it, or is placed on top of a dental implant to replace a missing tooth.
Dr. Chantry has many years of experience with crowns, and have had extensive advanced training in creating lifelike crowns that look completely natural, match the shade of the adjacent teeth and fit perfectly in the bite.
Our crowns are made of durable and lifelike porcelain, and we use an excellent lab that produces crowns to our exact specifications.
Our Durable, Lifelike Crowns
Our doctors fabricate your crowns out of top-quality porcelain that has the translucence of natural teeth and is shade-matched to your adjacent teeth. If extra strength is needed, we can use zirconia, an extremely strong form of porcelain that is highly resistant to chipping, cracking or fracture. Your doctor will select the material that will work best for your specific needs.
Our Crowns Procedure
The doctor will first prepare the tooth by removing any decay, after which he or she will take an impression for use by the lab in making your porcelain restoration. The doctor will then place a functional temporary crown over your prepared tooth so you can eat, chew and smile comfortably while your final crown is being made.
Once the final restoration is made, you will return to our office and the doctor will place the crown, making any fine adjustments necessary so it fits perfectly and comfortably, and aligns with your bite.
One-Visit Crowns

Our CEREC milling unit fabricates your crown in our own office so it can be placed during the same visit.
In our Elk Grove and Yuba City offices, Dr. Chantry can provide one-visit crowns using our in-office CEREC® system. CEREC (an acronym of CEramic REConstruction) is a breakthrough computer-aided design and manufacturing system for dental restorations.
Using our CEREC system, Dr. Chantry can design, fabricate and place perfectly-fitting, color-matched porcelain crowns in a single dental visit. With CEREC, there is no need for temporary restorations or follow-up visits.

When Crowns are Used
Below are the main reasons you might need a crown:
- To protect and restore a cracked, decayed or broken-down tooth
- To cap a tooth and protect it from fracture after root canal treatment
- To cover and correct a misshapen or discolored tooth and cosmetically enhance your smile (veneers are often used for this purpose, but the doctor may recommend a crown if there is gum recession around that tooth or if the tooth is otherwise weak or damaged)
- To top a dental implant as a replacement for a missing tooth
- To lengthen a tooth that is too short
- To correct your bite alignment
